He Hides My Soul

What happens when life goes along  smoothly and suddenly you feel on a detour? Does one fall apart, become absorbed in the conflict within and without so ultimately questions God’s ability to take care of His own?

Parking in the megachurch lot, I was looking forward to participating in worship and hearing our gifted pastor’s sermon. What an inspiring service! As always in conclusion, Pastor John declared over us: “The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you His peace.”(Numbers 6:24-26)

Walking hurriedly out the church, I glanced for the van, stubbed my toe and slowly fell to the pavement. I tried to push myself up, but my right arm would not cooperate. Immediately five men in back of me rushed to assist. Once I got to the car and tried to maneuver getting the car started, I realized it would be a left-handed, twelve mile ride home.

Immediately, my husband rushed me to Urgent Care. While in the examining room, the doctor then left me for an hour. My arm felt like jelly between the elbow bones with pressure applied but comfortably tolerable otherwise.

Moving to the emergency room with x-rays also taken, I was scheduled for surgery within hours. Upon awakening, the verdict: I had a very serious injury, three elbow bones broken and now held together with three pins and a plate.  Months of therapy would result.

Although I felt ledged in a three-sided rocky clift; I sensed an immeasurable stable trust in the Great Physician. My spiritual eyes saw He had passed by me that day and left me with the glory of His presence then and the long recovery afterwards.

“Lord, the Giver of Peace, you sustain us in rocky clifts but keep us looking to you as the Author and Finisher of our faith. Your ways are just and perfect for me!”
